Early High School Graduation Scholarship Program
Students
may qualify if they completed the requirements for high school graduation in 36
months or less.
Program Good Neighbor Scholarship
Aid
for citizens from another country of the Americas who are residing in Texas and
attending a Texas college or university at least part-time.
HHCSLP (Hinson-Hazlewood
College Student Loan Program)
This
program includes several different types of loans. Basic requirements must be
met to be eligible for award. Requirements include residency status, academic
requirements, financial need, and student enrollment status.
HHCSLP College Access Loans (CAL)
A
CAL loan is for students who are eligible to pay Texas resident tuition rates
and who attend public or independent nonprofit institutions in Texas. Borrower
pays a simple, fixed interest rate throughout the life of the loan. Repayment
does not begin until six months after enrollment drops to less than half time. A
promissory note must be co-signed, and the credit worthiness of cosigners will
be investigated. This loan is subject to availability of funds.
HHCSLP Health Education Loans (HELP) Program
This
is a need-based loan program for full-time students enrolled in a health or
medical related career such as medicine, dentistry, or veterinary. Students
must be eligible to pay Texas resident tuition rates, and the college must be a
public or independent nonprofit institution in Texas. Borrowers must meet the
basic HHCSLP requirements and award amounts vary.
HHCSLP Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans
This
state program offers low interest rate loans with minimum monthly payments, and
a maximum repayment period that may be more favorable than loans from
commercial lenders. Borrowers must meet the basic HHCSLP requirements and award
amounts vary.
HHCSLP Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans
This
program is similar to the Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans loan program in
that the interest rate, minimum monthly repayments, and maximum repayment
period may be more favorable from the state than from commercial lenders.
Borrowers must meet the basic HHCSLP requirements and award amounts vary.
Highest Ranking High School Graduate (Valedictorian) Exemption
The
highest-ranking honor graduates (Valedictorian) of accredited Texas high
schools are presented a Valedictorian Scholarship by the State of Texas. The
scholarship provides for exemption from tuition only for two semesters
beginning the first regular session following high school graduation. Deadlines
and award amounts vary.
License Plate Insignia Scholarship Program
The
License Plate Insignia Scholarship Program is funded through funds paid to the
motor vehicle department for the purchase of automobile license plates bearing
the insignia of Texas colleges and universities. The purpose of the program is
to provide financial assistance to needy students attending eligible public or
independent colleges in Texas. Awards are based on student's financial need and
availability of funds.
Students
enrolled in health related careers are sponsored by communities in exchange for
pledging to return to the community after graduation and work in the health
career for one year for each year of support. Awards are very competitive and
are based on both academic and personal credentials.
Reciprocal Education Exchange Program
Texas
colleges and universities exchange qualified students with students from Canada
or Mexico. This is a competitive program and has qualifying criteria that must
be met.
Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program
The
scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and not financial
need. The student must rank in the top 10% of their senior class and have a
minimum GPA of 3.75 to be eligible. This scholarship is renewable for up to
four years.
The
nursing student must be from a rural county in Texas and enrolled in a nursing
program that leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in
Nursing degree.
Rural Professional or Vocational Scholarship
The
nursing student must be a resident of a rural county and enrolled in a nursing
degree program at an institution in a non-metropolitan county of Texas. Award
amounts vary.
Scholarship
Program for License Vocational Nurses or Registered Nurses in Texas
The
nursing student must be a Texas resident enrolled in any eligible nursing
degree program. Award amounts vary.
State Nursing Scholarship Program
The
nursing student must be a Texas resident enrolled in an eligible nursing
program. Eligible nursing programs include Licensed Vocational Nursing,
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, or Master of Science in Nursing. Award amounts
vary.
State Student Incentive Grant Program (SSIG)
Student
must be a Texas resident enrolled at least half time and not pursing a
religious degree program or receiving as athletic scholarship. Award amounts
vary and are based on need.
Student Incentive Grant Program (SIG)
A
state grant available to Texas residents and nonresidents with demonstrated
need. Students must be in good financial standing on any other student loans
they might have and males must meet draft requirements.
Texas College Work-Study Program (TCWSP)
This
program provides part-time work based on the students financial need. Student
must be a Texas resident not enrolled in a seminary program or receiving an
athletic scholarship.
Texas National Guard Tuition Assistance Program
This
program is for students who are enlisted members of the Texas National Guard,
Texas Air National Guard, or the Texas Army National Guard and are in good
standing.
Texas National Student Exchange Program
Over 170 college and university campuses exchange their students for Texas students, usually for one-year terms. The purpose of this exchange is to allow students to grow, explore, live, and learn in other areas of the country.
Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG)
This
financial aid may be available to students who are enrolled, and have
established need through the Federal Methodology. These Funds are limited and
are used on a first come, first serve basis.
Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP)
Program
often used in junction with TPEG and TEG programs. A student must be a Texas
resident enrolled on at least half-time basis and be making satisfactory
academic progress.
Texas Tuition and/or fee Exemptions
Students
may be eligible for tuition/fee exemption if they fit into a specific category.
Categories include: class valedictorian (Texas high school); legally blind or
deaf; children of a POW or MIA; children of disabled or deceased firemen,
police officers, state correction officers, state game wardens; and children in
foster care, on AFDC or TANF.
Toward Excellence, Access, & Success (TEXAS) Grant Program
This
grant provides financial aid to needy students who are academically prepared to
handle college-level course work. The student must be a Texas resident.
Qualifications are strict.
Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG) Program
TEG is a program for students who are residents and/or National Merit Scholarship finalists attending independent colleges in Texas. It is restrictive in that students must be enrolled at least half-time, may not major in theology or religion, and may not receive athletic scholarships.
