Academy for Educational Development

The National Security Educational Program offers graduate fellowships to enable students to pursue specialization in the study of languages, cultures, and world regions that are critical to U.S. national security.

 

American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS)

ACLS provides fellowships and grants to postgraduate individuals so they may devote a full year to research and writing in such fields as Literatures and Languages, History, Anthropology, Political Theory, Philosophy, Classics, Religion, the History of Art, Linguistics, Musicology, and the study of diverse world civilizations and cultures. Also offers a program for research in China.

 

American Indian College Fund

Scholarships in education, science, engineering, library science, or mathematics for first-year college students enrolled in one of the 32 tribal colleges located across the U.S.

 

American Philosophical Society

Offers short-term fellowships for studies in the humanities and social sciences. The Porter Physiology Fellowships/Scholarships are awarded to minority graduate students working on their doctoral degree in the physiological sciences.

 

American Physical Society

Offers Congressional Postgraduate Science Fellowships to society members who will assist members of Congress in understanding the technical and scientific issues of global warming, energy policy, defense technologies, AIDS, pollution, communications technologies, and more. Offers special awards for APS members who are on the faculty in physics (and closely related) departments and to those who have made significant and innovative contributions in the application of physics to science and technology.

 

American Planning Association

Awards scholarships to students pursuing careers in the environmental sciences, public administration, transportation, or urban studies and awards fellowships for community development studies. Also has a minority scholarship program.

 

American Political Science Association

Offers grants and congressional fellowships to minority students who are political science majors entering their first year of doctoral studies in the political science discipline.

 

American-Scandinavian Foundation

The ASF promotes international understanding through educational and cultural exchange between the United States and Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden in areas of art, business, and government.

 

American School of Classical Studies at Athens

Offers both graduate students and scholars the opportunity to study Greek civilization first hand, in Greece.

 

American School of Oriental Research

Offers graduate fellowships to encourage and support research into, and public understanding of, the peoples and cultures of the Near East from the earliest times.

 

American Society of Criminology

Offers financial assistance to minority students studying criminal justice. Applications are accepted from current college seniors and graduate students accepted into or enrolled in a program of doctoral studies in criminology.

 

American Sociological Association

The Minority Fellowship Program is for new or continuing graduate students, with preference for those entering a doctoral program in sociology.

 

Association of American Geographers

Offers three different dissertation and research grant programs to support doctoral dissertation research in geography.

 

Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarship Program

Offers substantial scholarships for the graduate education of young men and women of exceptional promise pursuing careers in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

 

British Council - USA

Offers the Atlantic Fellowships in Public Policy that provides a unique opportunity for outstanding mid-career professionals to study and gain practical experience in a wide variety of public policy areas in the United Kingdom.

 

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Offers fellowships to uniquely qualified graduating college seniors to work as research assistants to the Endowment's senior associates.

 

Center for Women in Government

Offers graduate fellowships for women pursuing careers in public policy.

 

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation

Council for a Livable World

Offers the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship that provides college graduates with the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security.

 

Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC)

Offers a doctoral fellowship to scholars who have already earned their PhD in fields in the humanities, social sciences, or allied natural sciences and wish to conduct research of regional significance.

 

Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships

Offers individualized fellowships, in varying locations, to promote international understanding and productivity through the exchange of information, ideas, and perspectives among emerging leaders throughout the world.

 

Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB)

Offers two programs designed to increase the number of minority biomedical and behavioral scientist.

 

German Academic Exchange Service

Offers fellowships to assist doctoral students and recent Ph.D.s in their research on the cultural, social, communal, and intellectual history of German-speaking Jewry.

 

Goliard Scholarship for World Travel and International Understanding

The Goliard Scholarship is aimed at Rice University students with a desire to expand their horizons and challenge their worldview. It is unrivaled among scholarships available to Rice students in that it is intended for those students who wish to travel and might not have that opportunity in the normal course of their academic studies.

 

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada

Offers undergraduate and graduate scholarships to minority students pursuing economics, business administration, public administration, governmental accounting, finance, or political science careers.

 

Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation

Offers fellowships for study in any of the natural and social sciences and the humanities that promise to increase understanding of the causes, manifestations, and control of violence, aggression, and dominance.

 

Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation

Offers scholarships to college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the non-profit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service.

 

Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation

The foundation offers an internship program designed for young minority journalists interested in specializing in urban public health issues and obtaining a better understanding of the national policy-making process. Kaiser Media Fellowships in Health are offered for print or broadcast reporters, editors, and producers who cover health issues.

 

Henry Luce Foundation

The Luce Scholars Program offers fellowships that provide professional internships in Asia for young American leaders to work and live in Asia.

The Investigating in Women in Development (IWID) fellowship program offers a hands-on development experience in an international setting for 12 months to study democracy/governance, business and economic development, education for young females, local environment, and population health and nutrition.

 

U. S. Centers for Disease Control Foundation

Offers postdoctoral fellowships for professionals to explore the most effective ways to stop the spread of HIV.
